How much does it cost to hire a saxophonist for a wedding?

The cost of hiring a professional saxophonist for a wedding in the UK varies depending on the duration of performance, the number of sets required, travel distance, and any bespoke arrangements. As a guide, a typical wedding package covering a drinks reception and evening entertainment starts from a few hundred pounds, with full-day packages priced accordingly. How far in advance should I book?

For weddings and major events, it's recommended to book as early as possible — ideally 6–12 months in advance. Popular dates (particularly summer Saturdays) are often confirmed a year or more ahead. That said, last-minute bookings can sometimes be accommodated, so it's always worth checking availability even at short notice.

What areas do you cover?

Based in Buckinghamshire and regularly performing in London, Usman Sax is available for events throughout England. Regularly performed areas include London, Surrey, Essex, Kent, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, and the Home Counties. Enquiries from further afield are always welcome.

How do I secure my booking?

Once your date and requirements are confirmed, a booking deposit is required to hold the date. The balance is then due closer to the event. Full details are provided in the booking agreement which is issued with every booking.

What is a DJ and Sax performance?

A DJ and Sax performance — also known as Sax & DJ — combines a live DJ set with live saxophone played simultaneously over the music. The effect is an Ibiza-style entertainment experience: the energy and variety of a DJ mixed with the live, unpredictable excitement of a real instrument. It's one of the most popular entertainment formats at weddings and parties in the UK right now, and it generates incredible atmosphere on any dance floor.

Can I request specific songs?

Absolutely. Song requests are actively welcomed and every performance is shaped around your preferences. Whether it's a particular genre for a drinks reception, a list of favourite artists, or a specific song for your first dance, the performance is tailored to your taste. If a requested song hasn't been performed before, it can be prepared in advance — just ask.

What music genres do you perform?

A wide range of genres are covered: jazz, soul, funk, R&B, Motown, pop, house, deep house, commercial dance, and ambient/contemporary. This versatility means the music can be matched to any type of event — from an elegant black-tie dinner to a packed dance floor late into the night.

Do you bring your own PA system and equipment?

Yes — a full professional PA system is included with every booking. There is no need to hire additional equipment or coordinate with the venue on sound systems. Setup is self-contained and straightforward. All that's needed is access to a standard power socket.

How long is a typical performance?

Performance duration is flexible and agreed in advance. A typical drinks reception set runs for 60–90 minutes; an evening entertainment set for 2–3 hours. Packages covering multiple segments of a wedding day (ceremony, reception, evening) are available and include appropriate breaks. Custom durations can be accommodated for specific event requirements.

Can you perform during the wedding ceremony?

Yes — live saxophone is particularly beautiful for wedding ceremonies. Popular options include playing during the processional (as the bride or couple walks down the aisle), during the signing of the register, and for the recessional. A range of ceremony music is available, from classical pieces to contemporary songs, all arranged for live saxophone.

Can you perform a live version of our first dance song?

Yes. The first dance is one of the most emotional moments of the day, and having it performed live on saxophone makes it truly unique. Requests for specific first dance songs are taken in advance and a bespoke arrangement is prepared. Even songs that aren't typically associated with saxophone can be reimagined beautifully for the instrument.

Will you work with our DJ or band?

Absolutely. Working alongside existing DJs and bands is common and straightforward. For the DJ + Sax format, the saxophone is simply performed live over the DJ's set — no complex technical arrangements required. Good communication with the DJ or band's technical team in advance ensures everything runs seamlessly on the night.
